Queensland is the state of Australia with the third highest population, after New South Wales and Victoria. Located on the east coast of Australia, the state of Northern Territory is to the west,
South Australia is to the south-west and
New South Wales is to the south of Queensland. It is known as the 'Sunshine State', as it contains a lot of tropical, hot, sunny cities. However, Queensland is full of variety, with beautiful, lush rainforests in addition to its beach front cities.
The capital city of Queensland is Brisbane, which is the third largest city in Australia, having a population of approximately 2 million people. Other cities in Queensland which contain large amounts of people are Logan City, Ipswich, Toowoomba, and the Gold and Sunshine Coasts. Popular regional areas include Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Hervey Bay and Mount Isa.
Tourism in Queensland
This beautiful state with its varied landscape attracts an abundance of tourism, from the Gold Coast in the south east, to
Cairns in the north. The Whitsundays and the Great Barrier Reef are well known relaxing tourist destinations, along with the Gold coast and
Sunshine Coast which are known for their excitement. In addition to these beautiful destinations, it must be mentioned that Queensland is also well known for its five major theme parks - Dreamworld, Movie World, Sea World, Wet 'n' Wild and White Water World.
Queensland economy
Queensland's temperate climate is ideal for growing bananas, pineapples, peanuts and other tropical fruits and vegetables. Other primary industries in Queensland include wineries, cattle raising, cotton, sugar cane and wool. The mining industry is also prominent in Queensland, with bauxite, coal, silver, lead, zinc, gold and copper being the most mined raw materials. As for the tertiary industry, retail and tourism are the biggest industries.
